GERMAN TUNERS TAKE ON AMG!!

AMG C63 and SL63 get the tuner-treatment from Avus and Kircherer

While some people consider AMG-tuned Mercs to be the apogee of automotive art, others still only see 'potential'.

Today we offer two quite different takes on AMG '63' V8s from the aftermarket tuning world, the first a variation on the AMG C63 uber-saloon, the second a crack at 'facelifting' the AMG SL63.

According to Avus, 'understatement' has been the byword for its latest C63 project car. So as well as running on standard AMG 19ins wheels, the visual changes have been kept to a tasteful minimum - with door mirrors, front grille, roof panel and Mercedes bar painted black.

Running gear modifications include a 585bhp 'stage 3' engine upgrade, combined with a new stainless steel exhaust designed to offer fruitier sound effects.

The car also has lowered suspension, and 8 piston brake calipers to keep the performance in check.

The Kircherer-modded AMG SL63 is a little more in your face, featuring a new front spoiler and grille, LED daylight driving lamps (Noooo...), hooded headlamps, and a rear that's blessed with a re-shaped diffuser, four-outlet sports exhaust and a carbon fibre boot lid with a (hardly!) integrated spoiler.

Kicherer claims to have 'teased' 560PS out of the mighty AMG V8, and has also upgraded the brake system to, according to a quirkily translated press release, 'ensure adequate delaying values'.

You pays your money, etc.
